Job Summary

It is an exciting time to join our welcoming and friendly team of 27 Anaesthetic Consultants based at Glangwili General Hospital. The successful candidate will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on‑call rota, and providing senior anaesthetic cover for elective, emergency and trauma surgery.

There are opportunities for the successful candidate to deliver clinical care on emergency and trauma lists and gain further experience and expertise in a variety of specialities, including general surgery, ENT, and Ophthalmology.

Main Duties

The post is for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Peri‑operative medicine. The post holder will provide high quality care for patients within the anaesthetic Department and provide peri‑operative care for elective and emergency patients across the range of specialities available within Hywel Dda UHB. The candidate will join a team of consultants with an interest in Peri‑operative medicine, doing High‑Risk pre‑assessment, CPET clinics and assisting with our Pre‑habilitation service.

  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications (Essential)
  • Full GMC Registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On Specialist Register for Anaesthetics with GMC Certificate of Completion of Training or equivalence (or eligible for Specialist registration within 6 months of interview date)
  • Or CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration
  • FRCA
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills

  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
Clinical Experience (Essential)
  • Broad based experience in Anaesthesia
  • Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of valid advanced life support skills

  • Advanced Training In Peri‑op, regional anaesthesia, trauma.
