We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Anaesthetics/Intensive Care with a specialist interest in Obstetrics to join our team. The successful candidate will join a team of friendly and dynamic Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Consultants. We are dedicated to developing the department, team and working towards the wider organisational goals and culture.

The example job plan is based around sessions in Anaesthesia and participation in the out of hours service.

To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility.

The successful applicant will take part in the general on call rota, either at Calderdale or Huddersfield depending on service requirements and prior discussion with the Clinical Directors.

Surgical specialties provided by the Trust include ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics, General, Ophthalmic, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Upper GI (including Bariatrics), Urological (including laparoscopic resections), Colorectal, Robotic and Plastic surgery. Some paediatric work is undertaken within these specialties.

Job responsibilities

This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), including SPA 1.5 PA, but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • FRCA/FFICM (or equivalent)
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
  • Specialist registration for Anaesthetics/Intensive Care is preferred (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
Experience and Achievements
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Anaesthetics/Intensive Care specialty
  • Also, should have significant minor Anaesthetics/Intensive Care procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and Training
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
Audit and Research
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects
  • Critical Appraisal Skills
  • Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
