Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the anaesthetic team of 65 Consultants and 10 SAS doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The department is a dynamic, forward-thinking, and innovative team covering a wide range of specialties. It delivers anaesthesia across four sites: the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Saint Michael's Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital, and the St Austell Surgical Hub.

We are looking to appoint Consultants in General Anaesthesia (with an interest in POA/perioperative care) and Obstetric Anaesthesia.

The successful applicant will participate in the general on-call rota (approximately 1 in 30) and provide long day (08:00 to 20:30) CEPOD or Trauma emergency theatre cover about 10 times per year.

Main duties of the job

As a general guideline, the post will include:

• Four to five elective anaesthetic lists per week.
• The department uses fixed flexi sessions and annualised flexi sessions to provide flexibility and to enhance exposure to various competencies.
• Sharing approximately one CEPOD and Trauma 12-hour list every 4 weeks, with internal cover from an average pool of eight anaesthetists.
• A 1:30 on-call for anaesthesia, or as needed to meet departmental requirements. The postholder will not be rostered for elective work immediately following on-call shifts.
• 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) in the first year.
• 1.25 Programmed Activities (PAs) per list, including pre- and post-operative care. All-day lists count as 2.5 PAs.
• On-call remuneration is based on a bi-annual diary exercise, currently approximately 1 PA.
• Negotiable—1.75 PAs for participation in the Trauma Transfer Consultant on-call rota, for those interested and trained. This PA allocation is annualised and scheduled flexibly in advance based on individual availability.
