We are looking for a Consultant Agronomist to join Niab’s highly experienced and well-respected agronomy team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the largest independent agronomy groups in the UK and contribute to the future of sustainable farming.

You will be responsible for providing independent, scientifically grounded advice to a portfolio of growers and clients. This is a client-facing, field-based role with a strong focus on using evidence and research to support practical, profitable on-farm decisions.

Working hours:37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexible working is essential due to the nature of the role. Busy periods may require additional hours, balanced by quieter times throughout the year.

What you will be doing

•Supporting an existing client base with high-quality agronomic advice

•Building and maintaining long-term relationships with farmers and growers

•Promoting and expanding Niab’s agronomy consultancy services in your region

•Translating research into practice to improve farm productivity and sustainability

•Managing and growing your own business unit as part of the wider Niab team

About you

You will have a passion for agriculture, a sound scientific approach, and a strong desire to help farm businesses thrive. You are likely to be self-motivated, commercially aware, and comfortable working independently.

Essential

•A degree in agriculture or a science-related subject

•BASIS qualified

•A minimum of three years' experience in the agricultural sector

•A full driving licence and access to independent transport

Desirable

•FACTS qualified

•Previous experience in agronomy, preferably within the UK sector

•Familiarity with scientific research or on-farm trials

•Understanding of environmental land management schemes

Working environment

This is a physically active role involving regular walking and standing outdoors, often in varied and challenging weather conditions. As part of the recruitment process, we are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments that may support you in this role.

Niab is the UK’s leading centre for crop research and agronomy. We deliver science-led solutions for the agriculture and horticulture industries, helping farmers and growers improve productivity, resilience and sustainability. Our Agronomy Services team works with both Niab members and non-members, offering trusted, practical advice based on the latest research.

We employ around 400 people across sites in Cambridge, East Malling and throughout the UK. Our team of 15 agronomists provides expert advice on a range of crops across England, supported by world-class research facilities and long-standing industry partnerships.

Location

This role is home-based in the West Midlands, with daily travel to farms and client sites. Occasional travel to other Niab locations may be required. A vehicle is essential.
