A leading community NHS Trust in Cornwall is looking for Consultants in General Adult Psychiatry to join its new crisis care pathway. This role includes clinical oversight of crisis care services and opportunities for research and teaching. The Trust is committed to developing mental health services and is open to discussing recruitment and relocation packages.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration and licence.
  • Eligibility for Section 12 and AC Approval.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT.
  • Evidence of teaching experience at post-graduate and/or undergraduate level.
  • Experience of carrying out an audit project.

Responsibilities

  • Review of the Home Treatment Team caseload to ensure efficient care.
  • Weekly screening of inpatient wards for early discharge suitability.
  • Bi-weekly medical reviews of patients under the Home Treatment Team.

Skills

Job description

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking consultants in General Adult Psychiatry due to the creation of two new posts in an evolving crisis care pathway in Cornwall. These post are suitable for General Adult Psychiatrist with experience in managing patients in a crisis setting.

These post will have clinical oversight over multiple aspects of Crisis care including the local Home Treatment Team, the Crisis Hub and the Mental Health Connect phone line and has become available at an exciting time for Mental Health services in Cornwall as we embark on a journey of transformation to develop services for the future.

We are seeking individuals who are open to new ways of working, interested in developing services for the future, or who may be looking to consider research or teaching in addition to a clinical role.

We are open to discussing appropriate recruitment and relocation packages to enable suitably qualified individuals to move to Cornwall.

Main duties of the job

Review of the Home Treatment Team case load in the multi- disciplinary team setting to ensure efficient and excellent care is delivered by the service, reducing the average patient time on the caseload, preventing hospital admissions and helping to form effective and lasting care plans enabling patients in crisis to be returned to their community teams safely.

Weekly screening of inpatient wards and assessment of patient suitability for early discharge under the Home Treatment Team, reducing average length of inpatient admission, creating bed space and reducing out-of-county admissions and place of safety re-purposing.

Bi-weekly medical reviews of patients under the care of the Home Treatment Team, helping to update care plans, formulate and consolidate diagnosis and treatment.

Due to the nature of our local geography with long distances between homes, there will be a mixture of home visits and some scheduled clinics where patients in crisis are invited to attend outpatients clinic for review.

In their supporting professional activities time, the consultant may choose to help develop the county crisis service, and other aspects of emergency mental health care in Cornwall

Essential
