Job description
Overview

An exciting substantive, 5 programmed activity (PA) consultant psychiatrist post at the Channi Kumar Mother and Baby Unit, Bethlem Royal Hospital. The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary colleagues in the Mother and Baby Unit and linked perinatal community services across South London and Maudsley (SLaM) and The South London Partnership, as well as nationally, to deliver high quality, safe, evidence-based care. The post holder will support service innovations, quality improvements and clinical research, and education in perinatal psychiatry within SLaM, providing strong clinical leadership within the team.

This is a role to provide flexible clinical leadership and consultant responsibility within the Mother and Baby Unit, working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including an existing consultant.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical work specifically in the Mother and Baby Unit within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).
  • Share caseload and clinical responsibility with another consultant, with equal distribution of caseload.
  • Lead overall care of the patient, baby, and family, integrating biological, psychological and social aspects of assessment, investigations and treatment.
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team work and collaborate with community perinatal services across the Trust and nationally.
  • Support service innovations, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research in perinatal psychiatry.
  • Provide education in perinatal psychiatry within SLaM and contribute to professional development opportunities for consultants, with a focus on flexible working arrangements to prioritise patient care.
  • Engage in preconception and antenatal/perinatal care as described for women with psychiatric illness, including risk assessment, treatment planning and relays to maternity services.
Salary and Terms

£109,725 to £145,478 per year plus £2,162 London Allowance.
