Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the Emergency Department and Acute Services Care Group at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is an exciting time to join BHRUT, given the focus on unplanned emergency care and the opportunities both clinical and non-clinical.
We are a tertiary centre for neurosciences and one of 10 national elective surgical centres. We are expanding unplanned emergency care services, including developing patient-centred pathways such as OPAT and expanding our SDEC on both sites, which has received significant financial investment.
You will be welcomed into a friendly, dynamic, and forward-thinking care group that values patient care and staff wellbeing. We listen, support, nurture, and turn visions into reality. We are a team that works, laughs, and socialises together.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join an existing team of dynamic acute medical consultants with various specialist interests. We value passion, which has improved our performance, patient feedback, and HEE feedback. We invest equally in our staff and our services.
You will work as part of a cross-site service within:
Ambulatory Emergency Care/SDEC
Short stay Ward
We seek forward-thinking, dynamic individuals focused on patient care. We promote ideas and development; nothing is impossible.
Working for our organisation
We are continuously improving, driven by a commitment to deliver high-quality care that satisfies our patients. We are no longer in special measures; we have opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH), and our CEO was named top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.
Our main sites are KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments serving over 330,000 visitors last year. We are campaigning for £35m to transform the A&E at Queen's and eliminate corridor care.
Our patients benefit from initiatives like the Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, the Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.
The CDCs operate 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an additional 94,000 scans annually.
Our diverse staff of 8,000 individuals from 146 countries includes many who work flexibly. Over 400 staff are enrolled in Ofsted-accredited apprenticeships. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We plan to implement an electronic patient record system that will benefit both staff and patients.
