Job summary

Avencia Talent Solutions Limited is recruiting a Construction Underwriter for new business in Manchester or Leeds. The role is hybrid (3 days in office, 2 from home) with occasional travel to London and broker visits.

You will underwrite contractor liability and contract works, price and negotiate terms with brokers, develop broker relationships, and manage your pipeline to hit targets.

Qualifications

• Construction underwriting experience covering liability and contractor works.
• Ability to price and negotiate terms with brokers on complex packages.
• Experience in managing workload toward commercial targets.
• Experience or training in PI cover is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assess and price new business across contractors' liability and contract works (plus PI and property).
• Negotiate terms with brokers and progress quotations to placement.
• Develop broker relationships through regular contact and visits.
• Collaborate with distribution colleagues to identify opportunities and generate submissions.

Construction Underwriter - New BusinessManchester or Leeds | Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 from home)

Avencia are partnered with an established insurer looking to appoint a Construction Underwriter in Manchester or Leeds.

You'll underwrite new business for UK contractors, assess broker submissions and negotiate terms across a liability-led construction package.

The position offers hybrid working , broker visits, and occasional travel to London. There is scope for further technical development and progression as your experience grows.

The role

• Assess and price new business across contractors' liability and contract works, with additional covers including PI and property.
• Negotiate terms with brokers and follow quotations through to placement.
• Develop broker relationships through regular contact and visits.
• Work with distribution colleagues to identify opportunities and generate submissions.
• Manage your pipeline and contribute to new business targets.

Skills & experience

• Construction underwriting experience covering both liability and contractor works.
• Confidence making underwriting decisions within authority and referring cases appropriately.
• Experience discussing risks, pricing and coverage with brokers.
• Comfortable managing your own workload and working towards commercial targets.
• PI experience would be useful, with training available on the wider product.
