Job description

Support teaching and learning in a dynamic construction environment join a leading college as a STEM Technician at an educational location. Immediate start, temp until the 19th December 2025.

Construction Technician
Location: Bromley, Kent
Hours: 37 hours per week

Pay rate: £14.67 per hour

Join a respected college at the Bromley Campus, supporting practical teaching in construction trades. As a Technician, you ll maintain and prepare resources, assist students and lecturers, and help ensure a safe, well-organised environment. You ll play a key role in delivering high-quality learning experiences and supporting the next generation of skilled professionals.

Immediate start, temp until the 19th December 2025.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactively preparing and maintaining materials, equipment, and facilities for classes and practical activities
  • Assisting with devising and trialling practical activities
  • Supporting student project and assessment tasks
  • Providing technical support during teaching sessions
  • Maintaining hygiene and Health & Safety standards in practical environments
  • Costing and ordering materials, ensuring best value
  • Maintaining records such as risk assessments and COSHH sheets
  • First Aider duties
  • Stock control of materials, tools, and equipment
  • Supervising and instructing students in practical tasks, demonstrating techniques and processes
  • Ensuring student behaviour aligns with the College Code of Conduct
  • Attending open evenings and college events to promote the College

Candidate requirements:

  • On-site experience in a relevant trade
  • For educational settings: An ENHANCED DBS within the last three years is required.
  • Experience in a relevant industry position or educational environment
  • Good working knowledge of a wide variety of construction trades
  • Experience in devising, setting up, and assisting with practical teaching tasks
  • Organised and methodical approach to preparing materials and equipment
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of people
  • Flexible, team-oriented attitude
  • Proven knowledge of setting up workshops/work areas
  • Ability to work safely at all times in accordance with College and departmental risk assessments
  • Proven IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Flexible, able to work alone and use initiative
  • Willingness to undertake training

Desirable:

  • Experience contributing to risk assessments
  • Experience working with and developing rapport with students
