Job summary

Markel is seeking an experienced Construction Underwriter to join the Leeds or London team on a hybrid basis. You will manage a renewal portfolio across diverse construction risks, building strong broker partnerships and delivering profitable outcomes.

You will shape the portfolio with leadership from experienced underwriters, contribute ideas, and help drive growth across the Construction proposition while maintaining excellent service levels for brokers and clients.

Qualifications

• Construction underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Liability and Professional Indemnity risks.
• Existing underwriting authority within your current insurer.
• Experience managing renewal or new business portfolios.
• Excellent broker relationship and trading skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of construction renewal business.
• Build and develop strong broker relationships.
• Negotiate renewal terms and secure profitable outcomes.
• Handle mid-term adjustments and referrals.
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional covers.
• Work closely with New Business and Technical Underwriting teams.
• Deliver an outstanding service experience to brokers and customers.
• Contribute to team performance and retention objectives.
• Bring fresh thinking and market insight to support growth.
