Job description

Scitech-EKIUM is a leading engineering, design, construction, and qualification consultancy serving the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences sectors. We deliver technically complex, highly regulated projects from concept through to handover, offering bespoke solutions and multi-disciplinary expertise built on decades of industry experience. As part of the wider EKIUM Group - a 2,500+ strong engineering community across 14 countries - we combine world class technical excellence with a personalised, client-focused approach.

About the role

As a Construction Project Manager, you will take day-to-day responsibility for running construction projects, leading, motivating and coordinating project and site teams to deliver safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality. A visible site presence is key to the role, alongside managing contractors and suppliers and acting as the first point of escalation for technical, programme, health & safety, quality, contractor performance and client matters.

The role covers construction programmes, site logistics, project controls, costs, change and contractual matters, working closely with the PMO, design, engineering and commissioning teams. Ensuring compliance with CDM 2015, Building Regulations, health & safety and Company quality procedures will be central to the role, including effective management of risk assessments, method statements, inspections, testing, snagging and handover documentation.

Strong client relationships are essential, with involvement in project reviews, tenders and business development, as well as supporting the Head of Construction with resource planning across concurrent projects. The role also provides an opportunity to mentor and develop project and site team members, drive continuous improvement and build positive relationships across the business and supply chain. Deputising for the Head of Construction will also form part of the role when required.

Your primary office base will be our Head Office in Godalming. The role will involve frequent travel to construction sites across the UK. Most of these are in the South of England, but you may be required to travel anywhere in the UK.

About you
  • Significant experience as a Construction Project Manager, ideally within pharmaceutical, life sciences or another highly regulated design and build environment.
  • Experience delivering projects from smaller works through to capital projects of around £25m.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, M&E interfaces, sequencing, logistics and temporary works.
  • Proven project management skills across programme, cost, quality, risk, change and commercial management.
  • Good working knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge of CDM 2015 and Building Regulations 2010, with strong health and safety leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage contractors and build effective client relationships.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Construction Management, Building, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Recognised project management qualification such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or PMP is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant professional membership such as MCIOB, MRICS, MAPM or CEng, or equivalent experience.
  • Current SMSTS and relevant CSCS card.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and a planning tool such as MS Project or Asta Powerproject.
