Job summary

Vulcain Engineering UK in Ipswich, Suffolk, is seeking a Construction Planner (Civils) to join our PMO division, supporting nuclear new-build projects such as HPC and SZC. The role is site-based, requiring collaboration with construction teams, planners, and suppliers to develop and maintain integrated 4D schedules.

You will work with Primavera P6, drive 16-week lookaheads, and contribute to risk analysis, change control, and schedule performance.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering or construction planning for large civil projects.
  • Industry exposure to Nuclear or other regulated heavy industries (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, etc.).
  • Knowledge of EPC project environments and integrated planning through full lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and maintain detailed construction schedules in Primavera P6.
  • Update schedules to reflect progress within defined timeframes by the Central Controls Team.
  • Collaborate with site teams and contractors; contribute to 16-week lookaheads, 4D planning, and performance tracking.
  • Create fully logic-linked work plans aligned to WBS and approved construction techniques.
  • Assist in Trend & Change processes; analyze schedule impact and provide feedback on risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure contractor schedules align with forecast positions and processes.
  • Co-ordinate and produce schedule reports to defined reporting cycles.

Construction Planner (Civils) - Nuclear

Vulcain Engineering UK are seeking a Construction Planner (Civils) to join our PMO division, who are providing the client-side professional services for pioneer nuclear new build projects such as HPC & SZC.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain detailed construction schedules in Primavera 6 (P6)
  • Ensure the schedules are updated when required to reflect work progress and performance, to an agreed timeframe defined by the Central Controls Team.
  • Collaborate with site teams and contractors, contributing to 16‑week lookaheads, 4D planning, and schedule performance tracking.
  • Create fully logic‑linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising approved construction techniques.
  • Assist in the Trend & Change process, including analysis of schedule impact, generating performance indicators and providing feedback on areas of risk and opportunities.
  • Ensure that contractor schedules are produced in accordance with processes and ensure that they align to the forecast position.
  • Co‑ordinate and produce schedule reports to a defined reporting cycle.

This is a hands‑on, site‑based role requiring close collaboration with construction, planning, and logistics teams. It’s an opportunity for you to be an integral part of some of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects in decades – contributing to the UK’s future low‑carbon ambitions. The Construction Planner will work in a high‑performance culture alongside industry leaders, whilst gaining exposure to innovative tools like 4D/5D planning.

Key Skills and Experience
  • Demonstratable experience in engineering or construction planning - in particular on largescale and complex civil packages, during the construction phases.
  • Industry exposure across Nuclear or another highly regulated heavy industry, such as; Oil and Gas, Downstream, Petrochemical or Pharmaceutical.
  • Knowledge of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) project environments and integrated planning - preferably throughout the full project lifecycle (inception, pre‑FEED, FEED, construction, commissioning).
  • Expert knowledge of Primavera P6 schedule development and progress monitoring.
  • Understanding of site safety culture, and ideally nuclear/conventional safety principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate costs/data in a well‑structured manner.
  • Confident managing a multitude of stakeholders, including senior leadership, both internally and externally, as well as the ability to challenge and consult when required.
  • You will have indefinite and independent right to work in the UK, due to the high level of security clearance required on several of our UK Nuclear sites.
