Operations Manager – Construction (Full‑Time, Various Sites – UK)

We are looking for a proactive and hands‑on Operations Manager to oversee the effective resourcing and coordination of people, plant and equipment across a portfolio of construction projects. This is a roving position, requiring close collaboration with project teams, supervisors and the wider business to ensure delivery against key initiatives, productivity goals and quality standards.

Core Purpose of the Role

You will be accountable for ensuring that projects are adequately resourced and managed – from operatives and supervision through to supply chain, plant and equipment – while driving initiatives such as Confidence in Competence, Back to Basics and productivity improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resource Planning & Coordination: Forecast, gap analyse and allocate operatives, supervisors and equipment to meet project needs.
  • Confidence in Competence: Verify and maintain the competence, training and relevant experience of supervisors and safety‑critical roles.
  • Blue Collar Resourcing Risks: Monitor workforce hire rates, benefits, working hours and out‑of‑hours authorisations to remain competitive and within agreed standards.
  • Productivity: Identify and address projects operating above labour budgets or below productivity expectations.
  • Quality: Oversee competence and training in quality‑critical roles.
  • Project Start‑Up: Enforce site establishment standards and monitor compliance with health, safety and leadership teams.
  • Mentoring & Development: Induct and mentor new supervisors and construction managers and upskill existing supervisors.
  • Plant & Equipment: Procure, utilise and maintain plant and equipment.
  • Lessons Learned: Act as the central point of contact for sharing knowledge and lessons learned across all projects.

  • Proven experience in operations, resource or project management within a construction or engineering environment.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage budgets, productivity and resource allocation.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving, risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multiple projects and stakeholders.
