Job Description:

CTS and our range of independent UKAS accredited laboratories provide on-site testing and laboratory services to the construction, quarry products and civil engineering industries across the whole of the UK.

Our purpose-built laboratories are fully equipped to test the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of soils, aggregates, concrete and bituminous materials as well as other construction materials and products.

Our highly-trained technicians and engineers either visit sites and take representative samples for subsequent laboratory testing, or conduct in-situ field tests.

We are currently seeking a reliable and hard-working Materials Testing Field Technician industry experience to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity for a technician who has already gained some hands-on experience in materials testing (e.g., concrete, soils, aggregates) and is now looking to develop further within a supportive and accredited environment.

You will carry out field-based testing on construction sites and assist with laboratory tasks, working under supervision but also expected to manage basic tasks independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out standard site tests on construction materials such as concrete (e.g., slump, cube sampling), soils (e.g., in-situ CBR, density), and aggregates.
  • Collect and label samples accurately, ensuring compliance with UKAS procedures and relevant British Standards.
  • Record and report test results clearly and promptly.
  • Always adhere to health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members on-site.

Requirements:

  • Experience in construction materials testing (field and/or lab).
  • Understanding of standard testing procedures and British Standards (e.g., BS 1377, BS EN 12350).
  • Full UK driving licence – essential.
  • CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong attention to detail and good work ethic.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working under UKAS-accredited procedures.
  • Basic IT skills for data entry and report generation.

What We Offer:

  • Ongoing training and development to help you progress toward more advanced roles.
  • Company vehicle, PPE, and testing equipment.
  • Supportive work environment with clear career paths.
  • Pension and employee benefits scheme.
