Job Description:

Sir Robert McAlpine has secured a prestigious contract to construct a state-of-the-art Battery Manufacturing Facility. The initial phase includes the design and construction of a new 15GWh lithium-ion battery facility, ancillary buildings, and site-wide external works.

This Construction Manager role will oversee the £60 million Envelope Package of our £850 million project in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The Construction Manager role:

  • Report to the Project Manager, lead a team of Section Managers, Package Engineers, works staff, and subcontractors to deliver the project safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure technical compliance with contract documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Oversee operations during pre-construction and construction phases, acting as Project Manager when necessary.
  • Manage interfaces with internal departments and external agencies, including Architects, Engineers, Sub-contractors, Client agents, and Site Staff.
  • Identify and mitigate programme risks, address process or system shortcomings.
  • Live the SRM Values and the McAlpine Way, serving as a role model for your team.
  • Drive a high-performance culture through SMART objectives, guidance, and feedback.
  • Create an inclusive environment encouraging collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Your profile:

  • Strong leadership skills and experience delivering multi-million-pound building projects.
  • Good knowledge of building products, construction details, rules, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with construction software (Asta PowerProjects, Navisworks, Trimble Fieldview desirable).
  • Knowledge of various contract forms such as NEC4 and JCT D&B.
  • Proficiency in construction software packages.
  • Ability to plan effectively with a strategic perspective.
  • Strong leadership and resource management skills.
  • Qualifications such as NEBOSH and SMSTS are desirable.
  • A degree in civil or structural engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Up-to-date SMSTS and relevant Construction Skills Certificate Card.
  • Membership in a professional body such as CIOB or ICE.
