Job Description:

Sir Robert McAlpine has secured a prestigious contract to construct a state-of-the-art Battery Manufacturing Facility. The initial phase includes the design and construction of a new 15GWh lithium-ion battery facility, ancillary buildings, and site-wide external works.

This Construction Manager role will oversee the £60 million Envelope Package of our £850 million project in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The Construction Manager role:

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead a team of Section Managers, Package Engineers, works staff, and subcontractors to deliver the project safely and efficiently. You will ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and drawings, and oversee operations during pre-construction and construction phases. You may act as Project Manager during absences.

You will coordinate with internal departments and external agencies, including Architects, Engineers, Construction Workers, Sub-contractors, Client agents, Clerk of Works, and Site Staff. Additionally, you will identify and mitigate programme risks and address process shortcomings. Embody the SRM Values and the McAlpine Way through the Build Sure Commitments, serving as a role model and fostering a high-performance, inclusive team environment.

Your profile:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience managing multi-million-pound building projects
  • Knowledge of building products, construction details, rules, regulations, and quality standards
  • Familiarity with construction software (Asta PowerProjects, Navisworks, Trimble Fieldview desirable)
  • Understanding of various contract types (NEC4, JCT D&B)
  • Proficiency in construction software
  • Strategic thinking and effective planning skills
  • Leadership and human resource management skills
  • Qualifications such as NEBOSH and SMSTS are desirable
  • A degree in civil or structural engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Up-to-date SMSTS and relevant Construction Skills Certificate Card
  • Membership in a professional body (CIOB, ICE)
