Job summary

Murphy is seeking a Construction Manager to lead our Energy Team on the SSE ASTI Framework. You will coordinate resources, manage subcontractors, ensure health and safety, and drive project delivery from solution through to handover.

The ideal candidate has proven experience as a Construction Manager for a tier 1/2 contractor, with water/wastewater/utilities pipelines exposure; leadership track record; and the ability to coordinate materials with the commercial team.

Qualifications

• Successful experience as a Construction Manager for a tier 1 or tier 2 contractor.
• Experience on water/wastewater/utilities/pipelines projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
• Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring appropriate staff are appointed based on experience, skills and knowledge.
• Liaises with the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager to ensure an appropriate resource pool for workload.
• Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
• Overall performance management of subcontractors.
• Ensure activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and CDM Regulations.
• Interface with other functional leaders to facilitate project development from solution to handover.

A day in the life of a Murphy Construction Manager

• Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
• Co-ordination and allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring that appropriate construction and installation staff are appointed to individual projects: based on experience, skills and knowledge.
• Liaises with the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skill-sets for the projected workload.
• Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
• Overall performance management of subcontractors.
• Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and man-hour budgets.
• Ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
• Ensures that the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
• Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
• Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning and handover to the client.
• Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
Participate in, and positively promote, the Murphy Culture Development Culture (leading to Zero Harm).

• Successful experience as a Construction Manager for a tier 1 or tier 2 contractor.
• Previous experience on a water/wastewater/utilities/pipelines project.
• Shafts, trenchless/tunnelling and pipeline experience desirable, but not essential.
• Proven ability to lead teams and performance manage.
• Experience in managing materials including liaising with the commercial team to ensure the right materials are ordered and delivered.
