Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Construction Manager to lead energy-focused major civils and cable projects. The role involves end-to-end site leadership from solution development through construction, installation, commissioning and handover.

You will manage project teams, coordinate constructability inputs, allocate staff by skill and experience, and oversee resources, safety, budgets, and subcontractors while maintaining client relationships and a proactive, innovative approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in delivering Major Civils projects or Cable Projects.
• Experience within a Construction Manager role or similar.
• HNC / HND or NVQ Level 5 (or Degree).
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to develop close working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
• A true leader with passion for people development, can do attitude and a flare for innovation.
• Must be able to drive and be happy to travel.

Responsibilities

• Overall management of project teams during the construction and installation phase.
• Coordinate constructability input during solutions identification and development.
• Allocate construction staff to projects based on experience, skills and knowledge.
• Liaises with Project Managers to ensure appropriate resource pool and skill mix.
• Oversee construction resources including labour, plant and materials.
• Manage subcontractor performance and ensure safe, compliant delivery.
• Ensure teams meet schedules, budgets and quality procedures.
• Interface with functional leaders to progress from solution design to handover.
• Ensure CDM responsibilities are fulfilled and construction activities adhere to quality standards.

A day in the life of a Murphy Construction Manager:

• Overall management of project teams during the construction and installation phase of the project.
• Co-ordination of constructability input during solutions identification and development phase.
• Allocation of construction staff to projects ensuring that appropriate construction and installation staff are appointed to individual projects: based on experience, skills and knowledge.
• Liaises with the Project Managers to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skill sets for the projected workload.
• Overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
• Performance management of subcontractors.
• Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and man-hour budgets.
• Oversee the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
• Control all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
• Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning, and handover to the client.
