Job description

We are looking for a Construction Manager to join our Buildings team in Cambridge on a major commercial development. This landmark project in the heart of Cambridge requires a skilled professional who can lead and manage construction activities to ensure successful project delivery.

What you'll do:
  1. Promote the site safety culture, ensuring all works are carried out in a planned, controlled, and safe manner in accordance with statutory regulations, current standards, and company health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  2. Manage trade contractors, including overseeing the production of works to drawings and specifications, and monitor performance on site.
  3. Supervise subcontractors, labor, and material requirements for the contract, supporting Project Managers with on and off-site activities.
  4. Participate in Production Control / Collaborative Planning for your areas and packages, including chairing weekly planning sessions.
  5. Resolve site problems promptly, providing feedback on defects or defaults, and suggest innovative solutions to improve methodologies.
  6. Lead the CDP design process for your packages, working closely with the design team within cost constraints to facilitate design and coordinate production information.
  7. Maintain good record keeping, including correspondence, notices, drawings, site records, and digital data. Ensure daily diaries and progress reports are completed and communicated regularly to senior management.
What you'll bring to the role:
  1. Relevant experience as a Construction Manager on similar-sized projects, preferably with a tier 1 main contractor.
  2. Construction-related qualification to HNC level or equivalent.
  3. Significant site-based experience, ideally with management of personnel.
  4. Current Managers CSCS card and relevant qualifications such as SMSTS & First Aider (preferred).
  5. Membership or progression towards membership of a professional institution (MCIOB/ICE highly desirable).
