Job summary

JAVA Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Construction Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead on site safety and environmental compliance across live construction and logistics environments in Croydon.

This freelance role runs for 9 weeks, starting 3 August 2026, with shifts from 8am–6pm or 7am–5pm, Monday to Friday, at GBP280 per shift. The role requires owning HSE systems, delivering training, conducting audits and ensuring UK regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in HSE roles within construction.
• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• IOSH (minimum requirement).
• NEBOSH qualification or working towards.
• Excellent communication and proactive approach.
• Organising and influencing skills.
• Must possess CSCS, SMSTS, First Aid and Asbestos Awareness.

Responsibilities

• Own the HSE management systems and site compliance.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training.
• Interface with clients and site teams on safety matters.
• Monitor, report KPIs and HSE performance.
• Conduct audits and inspections; implement improvements.
• Stay updated with legislation and industry guidance.
• Manage COSHH documentation and assessments.
