Job Summary: The Civil Crew Lead is responsible for building each civil job as defined by the client’s scope of work and construction drawings. This encompasses, but is not limited to, loading and unloading all job materials, maintaining all tools, trucks, and equipment issued to the civil crew, meeting with superintendent and project manager before and after each job, operating light to heavy equipment, general site grading, excavation of tower and building foundations, placing rebar, pouring and finishing concrete, reading grade and elevation. This is a non-climbing position.

Responsibilities
  • Review the scope of work and construction drawings.
  • Assist in ordering materials and determining crew size.
  • Verify that all materials for the project are taken to the job site.
  • Build the job following the scope of work/construction drawings.
  • Schedule appropriate inspections.
  • Report any deviations from the scope of work/construction drawings to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Pick up trash on site, daily.
  • Take pictures of final work and provide all turnover documentation to Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Provide a daily tailgate meeting for crew to address daily tasks and safety issues.
  • Quality Control and Closeouts.
  • Review the scope of work and construction drawings.
  • Verify that all materials for the project are taken to the job site.
  • Verify that all the tools, equipment, and stocked supplies on your trailer are available and in working order.
  • Report any deviations from the scope of work/construction drawings to the Superintendent.
  • Complete and submit daily paperwork: Time sheets, JHAs, Lift Plans, any additional documents as required.
  • Take pictures of final work and provide all turnover documentation to Murphy Tower Project Manager.
  • Clean out truck(s) and trailer(s) after each job and put materials and equipment away.
  • Ensure all team members wear proper safety gear when necessary.
  • Ensure safety measures are being followed.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General site grading.
  • Cut in access road and compound area.
  • Concrete pad forming and finishing.
  • Operation of skid steer, mini excavator, backhoe loader.
  • Tower spread footing (pad and pier) excavation, placing and finishing concrete.
  • Excavating building foundations for trench footings and poured walls.
  • Trenching and installation of conduit for electric and telco service.
  • Trenching and installing ground rigs.
  • Carefully digging around existing utilities.
  • Finish grading and gravel.
  • Occasional landscaping work.
  • Installation of chain link fence.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time with paid hotels and per diem.
  • Ability to work extended hours and some weekends.

Educational Development:

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry related civil experience, 3 years of concrete and/or trenching experience; 2 years of crew lead or foreman experience is a plus.
  • Class A CDL or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire at company’s expense.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Effort:

Able to work in extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, and strong winds.

Constant spatial awareness is required for safety.
