Job summary

NRL Group is recruiting an experienced Construction Estimator to join a national contractor’s Preconstruction Team in Sunderland. You will lead detailed tenders, develop rates schedules, and analyse pricing with the commercial team to drive high-value bids.

The role focuses on accurate cost forecasting, governance, and contributing to value engineering on major projects. Hybrid working and full-time hours are negotiable.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in estimating within the construction sector.
• Strong understanding of tendering processes, cost planning and commercial principles.
• Experience producing bills of quantities and schedules of rates.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with estimating software and cost databases, ideally Conquest.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and competitive tenders in line with company procedures and submission requirements.
• Ensure all estimating processes and governance are followed through to tender settlement.
• Develop quantified schedules of rates and bills of quantities in collaboration with commercial team.
• Analyse tender documentation for accurate pricing and risk identification.
• Produce tender summaries to support internal review and decision-making.
• Attend and contribute to pre-price, price and tender adjudication meetings.
• Prepare for settlement meetings, covering key elements such as risk registers, preliminaries and labour rates.
• Support value engineering opportunities and cost efficiency initiatives.
• Collaborate across internal teams to align estimating, commercial and delivery functions.
