Job summary

Midas Construction (Northwest) Ltd. is seeking an experienced Construction Buyer to join our team on a range of live North West projects.

You will manage day-to-day procurement, source materials, plant, equipment and services, and ensure timely delivery to site. The role requires reading drawings and specifications, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work closely with site teams, project managers and estimators to drive value and efficiency while maintaining quality and safety

Qualifications

• Experience as a Buyer within the construction industry is essential.
• Knowledge of construction materials, products, plant and equipment.
• Able to read construction drawings and specifications, with experience of take-offs and bills of quantities.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Procurement of construction materials, plant, equipment and site services.
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure accurate purchasing and prepare take-offs/Bills of Quantities.
• Obtain, compare and negotiate supplier quotations, including prices, lead times and delivery terms.
• Raise and manage purchase orders in line with project programmes.
• Monitor deliveries and resolve shortages, delays and damaged materials.
• Build relationships with suppliers and manage invoices and payments.
• Support commercial and estimating teams with pricing and tender/post-tender enquiries.

About Us

Midas Construction is an established, family-run construction business delivering a wide range of projects across the North West. We’re growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Construction Buyer to join our team.

About the Role

You’ll manage day-to-day purchasing across our live projects, making sure materials, plant, equipment and services are sourced competitively, ordered efficiently and delivered to site when they’re needed. It’s a hands-on role for someone who knows the pace of construction and is confident working with suppliers, site teams and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage procurement of construction materials, products, plant, equipment and site services
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure accurate purchasing, and prepare material take-offs and bills of quantities where required
• Obtain, compare and negotiate supplier quotations, including prices, lead times, payment terms and delivery arrangements
• Raise and manage purchase orders in line with project programmes and company procedures
• Work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, and process material and plant requisitions from site
• Arrange plant and equipment hire, including bookings, returns and collections
• Monitor deliveries and resolve shortages, discrepancies, delays and damaged materials
• Build strong relationships with existing suppliers, subcontractors and merchants, and source new ones where needed
• Support the commercial and estimating teams with pricing and tender/post-tender enquiries
• Identify cost savings and value engineering opportunities without compromising quality
• Check supplier invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes, and help resolve invoice and payment queries
• Keep accurate procurement records and ensure purchasing follows company procedures, health & safety requirements and relevant legislation

About You

• Previous experience as a Buyer within the construction industry (essential)
• Good knowledge of construction materials, products, plant and equipment
• Able to read construction drawings and specifications, with experience of take-offs and bills of quantities
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Commercially aware, with a sharp eye for detail
• Confident communicating with suppliers, site teams and senior management
• Proactive, calm under pressure and good at solving problems
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and purchasing/order systems
