Who are We?

Dorset Highways carry’s out Dorset Council’s responsibilities as a highway authority for Dorset’s network. The service manages over 2,400 miles of carriageway. We are responsible for everything associated with the highway assets such as bridges & structures, cycleways, footways, drainage, and road signs & markings.

About The Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an assistant technician to join our busy Highways team. You will be supporting the Construction Delivery team working alongside the estimators and construction managers. This will involve site visits and office-based work, meeting potential clients, and preparing accurate and timely estimates for construction projects, aiding in the development of construction phase plans, supporting with the management of highway construction projects across Dorset.

This is a level 3 apprentice position with day release to a local training provider alongside your day-to-day duties. It is a 27-month fixed term position which could lead to a future full time post.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and communications skills who can work collaboratively within the team.

Entry Requirements

Minimum level 2 English and Maths grade 9-4 (A*-C)and prepared to undertake the study requirements dictated by the college or university.

This role will involve the requirement to travel on an irregular basis. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain a driving licence, if not already held, within a reasonable period after appointment.

A suitable vehicle will be provided for site visits from the nearest Highways depot.

Salary ranges from £25,183 - £26,409 initially with further development opportunities.
