Job summary

Headland Archaeology is seeking a Conservation Lead to establish and run a new conservation lab as part of our Finds team. The role focuses on artefact conservation, lab management, and collaboration with clients and specialists to deliver projects.

The candidate will manage budgets, schedules and reports, and mentor junior staff while adhering to UK health and safety practices and Headland procedures.

Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in conservation and significant experience.
  • Expert knowledge of preventative and remedial conservation.
  • Extensive track record in conservation of archaeological artefacts.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing a conservation lab.
  • Safe working practices and hazard management.
  • Experience managing teams and budgets.
  • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • IT skills with MS Office; strong documentation ability.
  • Knowledge of commercial archaeology sector.
  • ICON accreditation held

Responsibilities

  • Manage the conservation lab and budgets.
  • Provide advice on finds first aid and stabilisation.
  • Coordinate conservation work schedules and deadlines.
  • Liaise with specialists and clients.
  • Line manage, train and mentor junior staff.
