Job summary

Natural Resources Wales is seeking an Environment Officer (Conservation) to deliver Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) within a place-based team. The role involves regulating Protected Sites, providing specialist conservation input, and supporting projects and partnerships to protect and enhance the environment.

Due to the remote locations and limited public transport, a full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in ecology, conservation or biodiversity (or equivalent).
• Understanding of SMNR and NRW objectives and priorities.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
• Strong self-management and organisational skills.
• Ability to influence, negotiate and work with diverse partners; IT and GIS experience.
• Hold a full UK driving licence (cars/vans).
• Welsh language level required: Level C2.

Responsibilities

• Regulate protected sites by assessing and consenting activities and advising on compliance.
• Develop partnerships and oversee projects from concepts to implementation.
• Draft consents, provide investigations and reports to quality standards.
• Provide local advice to planning/permitting teams and liaise regularly.
• Monitor progress, interpret data, manage contractors, ensure action delivery.
• Support NRW Incident Management and contribute to safety compliance.
