Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Consents and Environment Manager based in Scotland to support major transmission projects aimed at net-zero delivery. You will coordinate the consenting strategy from early development through to consent, with autonomy and access to experienced guidance from the team.

You will manage environmental assessments, oversee consultants, and build relationships with authorities to secure positive project outcomes while collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams to hit milestones

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Scottish planning process and EIA legislation.
• Experience working in the Scottish rural environment.
• Proven project management skills in large consenting/environmental delivery.
• Degree in Environmental or Planning fields, postgraduate preferred; professional body membership desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee external consultants to deliver EIAs and documentation.

Base Location:For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth

Salary:£44,000 - £65,900 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

SSEN Transmission are currently seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced Consents and Environment Manager to support the development and delivery of major, large-scale terrestrial Transmission infrastructure. You will work on iconic National infrastructure projects directly facilitating Scotland's ambitions to meet NetZero through the transmission of renewable energy.

You will join an award-winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives. Reporting to a Lead Consents and Environment Manager, there will be a high level of autonomy for your projects with the benefit of experienced support and guidance provided through the wider Team.

You will

• Lead and coordinate the consenting strategy for nationally significant electricity infrastructure projects, supporting their progress from early development through to consent determination and, where required, construction delivery.
• Manage project optioneering, environmental assessments and risk identification, ensuring environmental and consenting considerations are integrated into project design and decision-making.
• Oversee external consultants and technical specialists to deliver proportionate, high-quality Environmental Impact Assessments and supporting consent application documentation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with consenting authorities, statutory consultees, government bodies and other key stakeholders, including negotiating consent conditions and securing positive project outcomes.
• Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams, providing clear communication and effective project management to deliver key milestones and programme objectives.

You have

• A working knowledge of the Scottish planning process, relevant consenting regimes and Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.
• An understanding and experience of working in the Scottish rural environment.
• Demonstrable Project Management skills and experience of how to manage the delivery of consenting and environmental compliance for major projects (e.g., project definition and set up, procurement and management of consultants, cost management, project risk, quality assurance and programme management).
• An Environmental or Planning related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant industry (e.g., infrastructure, environmental / planning/ statutory body/ consultancy dealing with major consenting projects). Membership of an appropriate planning or environmental professional body is also desirable.
• Some knowledge and experience of infrastructure construction processes including Ground Investigation, earthworks, drainage and access works.
• A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload.
