About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an innovative Scottish technology business that develops advanced industrial monitoring, condition monitoring and edge-AI solutions for customers across a range of industrial and manufacturing environments.
Combining sensor technology, embedded systems, engineering expertise and data-driven insights, the company is helping organisations better understand the condition, performance and reliability of critical assets through next-generation monitoring technology.
Following continued growth and increasing customer demand, they are seeking a hands-on Condition Monitoring & Installation Technician to support the development, testing, deployment and maintenance of their solutions across the UK.
This is an opportunity to join a growing business at an exciting stage of its journey, where you will have genuine input into product development and play a key role in customer deployments.
The Role
This is a highly varied position combining elements of:
- Electrical and mechanical systems
- Sensor installation and commissioning
- Industrial monitoring and machine-health technologies
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Industrial networking and connectivity
- Product testing and development
- Customer-facing field deployments
Working closely with engineers and product specialists, you will help build, configure, test and deploy monitoring solutions both in-house and at customer sites throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Testing
- Build and configure test rigs and demonstration systems
- Assist with prototype development and product improvements
- Assemble electrical and mechanical components
- Support testing, validation and product verification activities
- Install sensors and monitoring equipment on industrial assets
- Assess machinery and identify suitable locations for monitoring devices and sensors

- Configure hardware and peripheral devices
- Conduct installation testing and maintain accurate documentation
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and connected systems
- Diagnose faults with sensors, communications hardware and field devices
- Investigate connectivity and signal-flow issues
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Assist with machine-health assessments through engineering observations and monitoring data
Customer Deployments
- Travel to customer sites across the UK
- Carry out installations and commissioning activities
- Build strong relationships with customers through professional service delivery
Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience with machinery, electromechanical equipment, industrial maintenance, installation, instrumentation or a comparable technical environment
- Confidence using hand tools, power tools and basic test equipment safely
- A working understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and how their components interact
- Ability to identify common sensor types and correctly install and connect monitoring devices
- Practical competence in component mounting, basic fitting, sensor wiring, cable routing and tidy, labelled workmanship
- Working knowledge of PCs, basic networking and IT systems
- Understanding of systematic fault diagnosis across physical equipment and connected systems
- Ability to follow drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals and technical instructions
- Clear communication, accurate record keeping and a professional approach to customer interactions
- Sound safety awareness and engineering judgement
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to commute reliably to the Irvine area and undertake UK-wide travel with occasional overnight stays
Qualifications & Experience Level
Practical or vocational experience is preferred over a degree. An engineering apprenticeship, relevant vocational qualification or equivalent hands-on experience would be suitable.
Around two years of relevant experience is sufficient if you can demonstrate practical engineering ability, sound judgement and a willingness to learn.
Candidates with experience of industrial monitoring technologies, instrumentation, maintenance, automation, sensor installation, commissioning or fault diagnosis will be particularly attractive.
Experience of condition monitoring, predictive maintenance or vibration analysis would be beneficial but is not essential. Training can be provided on the company’s systems and monitoring methodologies.
Industry-recognised certifications such as ISO 18436 Vibration Analysis, or membership of organisations such as BINDT, MIBoC or the Vibration Institute, would be advantageous but are not expected.
- Experience of industrial sensors, monitoring equipment or condition-monitoring systems
- Exposure to vibration monitoring, predictive maintenance or reliability programmes
- Awareness of machinery condition assessment and common equipment faults
- Experience working with rotating equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, compressors or gearboxes
- Industrial PCs, data-acquisition systems or edge-computing equipment
- Beckhoff, Siemens, Schneider, Trend or similar automation platforms
- Industrial communications such as Modbus or MQTT
- Basic Linux knowledge or Windows-based industrial system configuration
- Commissioning, customer-site installations or technical demonstrations
- Test-rig maintenance, equipment validation or structured testing activities
- Relevant electrical, machinery-safety or site-working qualifications
You do not need experience of every platform. Full training will be provided on the company’s products and technologies.
