Job summary

School of Coding & AI is seeking a Deputy Programme Lead to support academic leadership and day-to-day management of Computing and IT provision. You will help coordinate programme delivery, maintain teaching standards and support lecturers to ensure students receive a high-quality academic experience.

This role sits between academic delivery and subject leadership, focusing on curriculum coordination, staff support, academic quality and effective running of the subject area, while staying

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Computing/IT or related discipline.
  • Extensive teaching experience in Higher Education or equivalent adult learning environment.
  • Experience coordinating modules, programmes or curriculum delivery.
  • Strong understanding of assessment, moderation, QA and student support.
  • Ability to use academic data and feedback to drive improvements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership to guide academic colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Programme Lead with day-to-day academic management of Computing and IT provision.
  • Coordinate module delivery to ensure resources and schedule alignment.
  • Teach across Computing/IT modules when required, modelling high-quality practice.
  • Review curriculum content and assessments for currency, rigour and industry relevance.
  • Monitor attendance, attainment and progression data to identify intervention needs.
  • Support lecturers to improve teaching quality, assessment practices and student engagement.
  • Coordinate moderation, standardisation, assessment boards and QA processes.
  • Ensure documentation, module files and quality records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Mentor staff, coordinate workload and provide day-to-day academic guidance.
  • Collaborate with Student Services to resolve student concerns and support at-risk students.
  • Contribute to programme reviews, validation activities and external examiner responses.
  • Build links with employers to strengthen employability and curriculum relevance.

About the role

The Deputy Programme Lead will support the academic leadership and day-to-day management of Computing and IT provision across School of Coding & AI.

Working closely with the Programme Lead, you will help coordinate programme delivery, maintain teaching standards, support lecturers and ensure students receive a consistent and engaging academic experience.

This role sits between academic delivery and subject leadership. You will remain connected to classroom practice while taking greater responsibility for curriculum coordination, staff support, academic quality and the effective running of the subject area.

You will help translate academic plans into consistent delivery, ensuring teaching teams understand what is expected, modules are appropriately resourced and potential issues are identified and addressed early.

The role would suit an experienced Computing or IT lecturer who is ready to take the next step into academic leadership, or an existing programme leader seeking broader responsibility across a growing portfolio.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Support the Programme Lead with the day-to-day academic management of Computing and IT provision.
  • Coordinate programme and module delivery, ensuring teaching is well planned, appropriately resourced and delivered to schedule.
  • Teach across relevant Computing and IT modules where required, modelling high-quality academic practice.
  • Review curriculum content, teaching materials and assessments to ensure they remain current, rigorous and industry relevant.
  • Monitor attendance, attainment, continuation, completion and progression data, identifying areas requiring intervention.
  • Support lecturers to improve teaching quality, assessment practice, student engagement and academic outcomes.
  • Coordinate moderation, standardisation, assessment boards and other academic quality processes.
  • Ensure programme documentation, module files and quality records are accurate, complete and maintained.
  • Support lecturers through induction, mentoring, workload coordination and day-to-day academic guidance.
  • Work with Student Services and academic teams to resolve student concerns and support students at risk of disengagement.
  • Contribute to programme reviews, validation activity, external examiner responses and academic improvement plans.
  • Build links with employers and industry partners to strengthen employability, applied learning and curriculum relevance.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Computing, Information Technology or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong experience teaching Computing or IT within Higher Education or a comparable adult learning environment.
  • Experience coordinating modules, programmes, curriculum activity or academic delivery.
  • A sound understanding of assessment, moderation, academic quality assurance and student support.
  • The ability to use academic data and student feedback to identify issues and improve performance.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to support, guide and challenge academic colleagues.
Desirable
  • Fellowship of Advance HE or another recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with university partners or within validated Higher Education provision.
  • Experience supporting programme validation, revalidation or external examiner processes.
  • Knowledge of Office for Students expectations, quality frameworks and Higher Education performance measures.
  • Relevant industry experience or professional certification within Computing or IT.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring lecturers and associate academic staff.
