Job summary

AWE in Aldermaston is offering a Year in Industry Placement for a Computational Materials Modeller. You will join the Modelling Team to study materials ageing and contribute to models across metals, ceramics, foams and polymers, using MATLAB, Mathematica, OpenFOAM and R as part of diverse codebases.

The role runs for 12 months starting 2 August 2027, with a salary of £24,500 and a market-leading pension, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Materials Science or Chemistry with strong maths or programming.
• Evidence of modelling experience and interest in materials ageing.
• Willingness to work on coding projects using MATLAB, Mathematica, OpenFOAM and R.

Responsibilities

• Characterise material ageing processes and model observed trends.
• Write, develop and run code in MATLAB, Mathematica, OpenFOAM and R.
• Verify codes with test cases and analytical solutions where appropriate.
