Job description

Following the successful launch of our Composite Technician Apprenticeship in April, Brick Kiln Composites is happy to announce that applications for the September intake are now open!

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for up to three Composite Technician Apprentices at Brick Kiln Composites located in Banbury. The role will involve 4 days working on tasks related to the manufacturing and assembly of carbon composite parts for Formula One, high-end automotive, and motorsport applications. The 5th day will see you partner with the University of Sheffield AMRC to build up your foundational knowledge of the Composite industry.

About the Level 3 Composite Technician Apprenticeship

As part of the 3 year Apprenticeship Standard, you will study units including the following:

  • Health & Safety, Environmental and Sustainability regulations.
  • Composite Material Definitions.
  • Types of matrix materials.
  • Pre-processing activities such as mould preparation.
  • Composite manufacturing processes, such as templating and mould layup techniques.
  • Tooling and product design.
  • Quality assurance procedures.
  • Composite defect identification, and continuous improvement strategies.

The apprenticeship will equip you with the skills and understanding to become a fully qualified Composite Laminator within the company and beyond. Once qualified the whole of Motorsport Valley is at your fingertips!

As well as completing the modules listed above, you will undertake on-the-job training as part of our Training Centre where you will be mentored day-to-day by an experienced Composite Laminator. Here you will put theory into practice – working on production F1 parts from day 1!

Person Specification
  • You have an interest in Formula 1 or motorsports, as well as an interest in motor manufacture or engineering.
  • You possess a keen eye for detail and strive for perfection in your work.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills, grounded in teamwork and collaboration.
  • You are interested in pursuing a career as a Composite Laminator, Trimmer, Inspector or similar role.
  • You are able to commit to an Apprenticeship Program that lasts 3 years.
Qualifications

No prior experience is necessary to embark on this apprenticeship, but we would expect you to undertake at least 1 week of work experience, with ourselves, prior to commencing on this training programme to ensure it meets your expectations.

In conjunction with the University of Sheffield AMRC, you will be required to evidence the following English and Maths qualifications prior to enrolment with our training provider:

  • Maths – GCSE C or Level 4 or above
  • English Language – GCSE C or Level 4 or above
