Job description

Job Description

Established in 2022, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) is a fast-growing business within the Aston Martin Racing Performance Group. Our vision is to deploy our F1 knowledge and technical expertise to deliver high-performance engineering projects outside of Formula One.

AMPT has already established its position as a technological trend-setter - from producing highly successful automotive composite Body in White programmes to heading global motorsport programmes. As our programme portfolio develops, we are looking for a range of driven, world-class engineers to join us on this exciting journey.

AMPT is based in Silverstone, amidst the widely renowned Aston Martin Racing Technology Campus. With the iconic circuit on one side and rural countryside on the other, the new Campus symbolises our core values: innate competitive desire and a drive for sustainable efficiency, in an environment conceived to nurture innovative and creative thinking.

We have a new opportunity to be part of the Aston Martin Performance Technologies team in the role of Composite Design Engineer.

As a Composite Design Engineer, you will generate high-quality 3D and 2D composite designs, focusing particularly on composite materials and lightweight structures. You will work across internal and external (non-F1) customer projects from concept through to production, developing innovative, practical, and commercially viable engineering solutions in an agile and growing environment.

You will represent AMPT to external stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and research partners—setting high technical and professional standards in everything you do.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Delivering RFT (Right First Time) 3D and 2D composite designs to specification, time, and budget.
  2. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including simulation, testing, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure alignment on performance, cost, weight, and manufacturability.
  3. Supporting the development of new business opportunities and contributing to AMPT’s innovation and IP portfolio.
  4. Coaching, mentoring, and at times line-managing less experienced designers and/or contractors.
  5. Contributing to AMPT’s continuous improvement culture, including methodologies, tools, and team development.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  1. Excellent communication skills—clear, concise, and professional across written, verbal, and visual formats.
  2. Proven ability to manage workload effectively: planning, prioritising, and delivering to tight deadlines.
  3. Strong background in concurrent engineering, delivering designs that meet DFM (Design for Manufacturing), cost, and performance targets.
  4. Experience applying DFMEA to support robust design development.
  5. Advanced knowledge of 3D and 2D CAD, ideally using CATIA or Siemens NX, with a focus on composite design.
  6. Good understanding of engineering drawing standards and GD&T.
  7. Working knowledge of industry-recognised design engineering standards.
  8. Familiarity with automotive design processes, particularly body structures, battery packs, and composite manufacturing.
  9. Experience with composite materials and 3D printing methodologies.
  10. Ability to generate design concepts and clearly explain rationale in design reviews.
  11. Self-motivated and able to inspire others in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  12. Flexible, team-oriented, and comfortable adapting to rapid change.
  13. Strong organisational skills with a results-oriented, decision-making mindset.
  14. Willingness to travel as needed to support projects and stakeholder engagements.
  15. Commitment to Health & Safety and maintaining a safe working environment.

This is a full-time office-based role based at our campus in Silverstone, with additional requirement to travel to other locations where necessary.

We are a business that fosters a supportive, inclusive, and compassionate culture, where our team genuinely embodies our core values: Growth, Readiness, Empowerment, Excellence, and Nurturing.
