The Opportunity - Compliance Officer

About the Role

As a Compliance Officer at JCB, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company adheres to all UK and EU customs laws and regulations. You’ll be responsible for developing and implementing compliance procedures, conducting audits, and managing import/export documentation and classification. Working closely with customs brokers and internal departments, you’ll help facilitate the smooth and timely clearance of goods while ensuring accurate valuation and tariff classification. This role demands a proactive approach to monitoring regulatory changes and adjusting internal processes accordingly, making it ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of international trade compliance.

What does this role involve day to day?

• Ensure compliance with all customs laws, regulations, and policies
• Develop and implement customs compliance procedures and policies
• Train employees on customs compliance policies and procedures
• Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement
• Secure proper import and export documentation and classification
• Work with customs brokers to ensure smooth and timely clearance of goods
• Ensure proper valuation and tariff classification of imported and exported products
• Collaborate with internal teams to address and resolve customs-related issues
• Respond to inquiries and participate in customs-related investigations
• Continuously monitor changes and updates to UK & EU customs regulations (where JCB Service is the Importer/Exporter of Record) and adjust procedures accordingly

• You hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Business, Logistics, or Customs Brokering
• You have a strong working knowledge of customs regulations and procedures
• You can demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills
• You are capable of managing complex and time-sensitive projects with precision
• You are committed to ensuring JCB Service complies with all applicable laws and regulations related to importing and exporting goods
• You can manage relationships with government agencies and customs brokers
