Are you ready to lead ethical standards in the fast-evolving world of AI and technology? As YouGov’s Compliance Manager – AI & Technology, you will be responsible for ensuring that our research, survey, editorial, and product processes meet the highest ethical and regulatory standards.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in AI governance, digital compliance, and a strong understanding of data ethics. You will review processes across AI, data, technology, and content production, ensuring compliance with internal policies, industry best practices, and obligations to bodies such as the British Polling Council and Market Research Society.
You will also support the development of our digital product suite and act as a Risk Management business partner, helping key teams manage risks under the Group Risk Register. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of compliance, innovation, and responsible technology.
This is a hybrid role, requiring at least two days per week in the office. We support your work-life balance with a mix of in-office collaboration and home-based productivity.
Regrettably, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship, so you must be eligible to work in the UK on a permanent basis.
Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff):
- Ethical Standards and Policy Development
- Develop and maintain research, editorial and survey ethics policies, including those around contentious topics and political sensitivity at all times ensuring alignment with industry standards.
- Establish guidelines for editorial integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- Develop policies, processes and standards for AI adoption, deployment and governance.
- Support our approach to product development and technology procurement.
2. Content Review and Monitoring
- Monitor and review survey and editorial content for compliance with ethical guidelines and standards and topic sensitivity.
- Address ethical concerns, conflicts of interest, and breaches of survey and editorial integrity, including the use of AI.
3. AI and Technology
- Work closely with the General Counsel and DPO on the formulation of our approach to AI policy, governance and ethics.
- Implement and operate an appropriate AI approval process, creating policies and procedures that evaluate risks and benefits.
4. Training and Awareness
- Develop and deliver training programs for editorial and panel staff on ethical practices and compliance requirements.
- Promote a culture of ethical awareness and responsibility across the panel and editorial teams.
5. Risk Management and Compliance Audits
- Conduct regular audits of survey and editorial processes to identify risks or areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including copyright, defamation, and AI regulations, working the IP counsel and DPO for input where necessary.
- Work closely with the departments allocated to you on their responsibilities under the company’s risk register.
6. Regulatory and Industry Compliance
- Stay informed about changes in media or data regulations, ethical guidelines, and industry trends.
- Ensure adherence to laws such as FTC guidelines, or advertising standards where applicable, taking advice from relevant Legal counsel or the DPO where necessary.
- Ensure the company has in place the industry standards it needs to operate its business in accordance with its policies and client demands.
- Review and research ISO standards, advising on those the company should adopt and developing programmes to oversee their implementation.
7. Complaint Management and Resolution
- Oversee the handling of complaints regarding editorial or survey content or ethical breaches.
- Investigate and resolve issues in a timely and transparent manner, maintaining accurate documentation.
8. Collaboration with Leadership
- Work closely with the panel and editorial leadership team to ensure ethical practices are integrated into content strategy and workflows.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on ethics-related risks, compliance activities, and initiatives.
- Serve as the point of contact for external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, advocacy groups, and the public, on matters related to survey / editorial ethics and compliance.
These are the essential you will need to get an interview:
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in digital compliance
- Experience working with AI-related compliance or regulatory matters
- Proficiency in compliance tools and content review processes
- Familiarity with media law, AI regulations, regulatory requirements, and industry standards (e.g., BSI, codes of ethics)
- Awareness of social and political trends and current affairs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Proactive and detail-oriented approach to complex challenges
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively across teams
It would be great if you had these too, but we’ll support you if you don’t:
- Advanced certifications in media ethics or compliance.
- Educational background in Journalism, Communications, AI, Ethics, Law, or a related field
- Global experience working across different jurisdictions or regions
