Compliance Manager – Glasgow

A respected and forward-thinking law firm is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to lead its Risk & Compliance function.

This is a key leadership role responsible for strengthening and enhancing the firm's risk and compliance framework in line with the Law Society of Scotland Practice Rules, SRA Standards and Regulations, UK Money Laundering Regulations, GDPR and wider professional obligations.

As the firm's Money Laundering Compliance Officer (MLCO), you will play a central part in maintaining strong governance standards, supporting operational resilience and fostering a culture of ethical practice and accountability across the business.

The Role

Your leadership will underpin the firm's risk and compliance operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the firm's MLCO, maintaining and enhancing AML and wider risk management frameworks
  • Overseeing compliance monitoring programmes, thematic reviews and quality assurance checks
  • Working collaboratively with the COLP, MLRO and Deputy MLRO to ensure regulatory obligations are met and embedded
  • Managing, developing and continually improving compliance policies, procedures and firm wide risk controls
  • Leading, mentoring and supporting the Risk & Compliance team, promoting high performance and professional development
  • Providing clear regulatory guidance to partners, lawyers and business services teams
  • Preparing detailed compliance and risk reports for the COO and Management Board
  • Monitoring regulatory, legislative and professional developments and responding appropriately
  • Designing and delivering engaging training on AML, data protection and conduct rules
  • Acting as the main point of contact for client and regulatory compliance queries, audits and inspections
The Experience Required

You will be a knowledgeable and proactive compliance professional with:

  • In-depth understanding of the Law Society of Scotland Practice Rules, LSAG guidance, SRA Standards and Regulations and UK Money Laundering Regulations
  • At least 5 years' experience in compliance, risk, or regulatory roles within a law firm or regulated professional services environment
  • Proven expertise in AML, risk management, professional conduct and data protection
  • Excellent analytical, communication and report-writing skills
  • Strong organisational ability, attention to detail and the capability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence working with stakeholders across departments and senior levels
  • Proficiency with compliance and risk systems, with an interest in process improvement and automation
Desirable Experience
  • Experience as (or supporting) an MLCO, MLRO, or COLP
  • Professional qualifications such as ICA Diplomain Compliance, AML, or Risk
  • Legal qualification (solicitor, legal executive, or paralegal)
  • Experience working in a dual-regulated environment
