Job title: UK ETCS On-Board Compliance Engineer
Role Definition
This exciting role offers an opportunity to provide technical leadership and innovation within Siemens regarding compliance in the context of an ETCS on-board retrofit project.
Working as part of a close-knit team, the Compliance Engineer shall be the referent on compliance for the UK-specific application of an ETCS On-Board retrofit project. The Compliance Engineer will report to the Approvals Manager.
The Design team and the System Engineering team define which standards, laws, and regulations the design must comply with, listed in the document called the Technical Baseline. This Technical Baseline is part of the requirement package that Siemens passes to each design house.
Key Accountabilities
- Gather and present evidence that the designs comply with the technical reference documents (standards, regulations) listed in the Technical Baseline.
- Check and challenge the evidence of compliance produced both internally (System Engineering, Design, Verification) and externally (design houses). Note that compliance here covers the reference documents.
- Produce compliance reports:
- Unfitted vehicle compliance report
- Retrofitted vehicle compliance report
These reports contain the evidence of compliance, to be used as input to both the Safety Case & the Technical File.
- Support the approval process to obtain APIS for each train class.
- Work directly with the Approval Manager, the Validation Manager, the assessors (NoBo, DeBo, AsBo), the Design & Technical Authority.
- Support the UK ETCS On-board delivery team through the design, approval, test, and commissioning activities for the Vehicle First in Class project.
Milestones
- Contribute to the constitution of the Technical File.
- Prior to track testing & commissioning:
- Reports from bodies (ISA, TSI, NNTRs)
- Compliance reports from design houses (against TB4DH) + internal (lab test reports)
- After commissioning:
- Track test reports
Specific Skills/Tasks
Essential:
- Knowledge and/or experience relating to train-carried systems, in particular train control systems & in-cab signalling systems (ETCS / CBTC).
- Previous experience in interacting with assurance bodies (AsBo, NoBo, DeBo).
- Previous experience in safety assurance and certification.
- Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out.
- Ability to understand and consider the big picture, including the politics and sensitivities surrounding the rail industry.
- Experience working to industry quality and safety standards.
- Strong and effective communication skills at all levels within the Business and with customers.
- Highly motivated, dependable, and self-reliant.
Desirable:
- Specific knowledge of railway systems and technologies.
- Previous experience in APIS and/or ABIU processes.
- Proven track record working in major subcontract environments.
- Multilingual abilities.
