Job summary

Kraken Works Limited is seeking a Regulatory & Certification Compliance Lead to act as the focal point for engineering compliance across programmes, from concept through certification to in-service operation.

You will collaborate with engineering teams, classification societies, regulators and customers to interpret regulatory requirements, track evidence, and deliver compliant designs and submissions while maintaining practical, traceable documentation.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to become Kraken's focal point for engineering compliance, supporting platform development from concept and design through build, commissioning, certification and in-service operation.

You will work closely with engineering teams, classification societies, regulators, government departments, customers and equipment suppliers to ensure compliance requirements are understood, managed and successfully delivered.

The role combines technical understanding, stakeholder engagement and regulatory expertise, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple disciplines and influencing successful project outcomes.

Regulatory & Certification Compliance

Manage compliance activities across engineering programmes. Develop and maintain compliance matrices covering applicable regulations, standards and certification requirements. Coordinate compliance with: MCA Workboat Code Edition 3 Classification Society Rules (ABS, Lloyd's Register or other applicable societies) Flag State requirements Defence and Government customer requirements Applicable maritime regulations and standards Interpret regulatory requirements and communicate compliance obligations to engineering teams. Track compliance status and provide regular reporting to project teams and management.

Classification Society & Regulatory Engagement

Act as the primary interface with classification societies and regulatory authorities. Coordinate submissions, reviews, technical queries and evidence packages. Support surveys, audits, inspections and certification activities. Manage classification society comments and closure plans. Ensure timely resolution of certification findings and actions.

Design & Equipment Compliance

Work with systems, electrical, software and mechanical engineers to ensure compliance requirements are incorporated into designs. Review equipment selections against regulatory and certification requirements. Verify equipment approvals, type approvals, certifications and environmental qualifications. Ensure supplier documentation supports certification activities. Identify compliance risks associated with design decisions and equipment selection.

Compliance Evidence Management

Generate and maintain compliance evidence repositories. Produce compliance reports, gap analyses, action plans and certification submissions. Ensure objective evidence is collected, reviewed and maintained throughout the programme lifecycle. Support customer and authority reviews with clear, traceable evidence packages.

Standards & Process Development

Support the development and continuous improvement of company compliance processes and methodologies. Establish best practices for compliance management within engineering programmes. Contribute to organisational knowledge relating to maritime regulations, standards and certification activities. Monitor emerging regulations and changes in industry standards.

Regulatory Compliance

Experience with maritime regulatory compliance activities. Understanding of certification and approval processes. Experience interpreting technical standards, regulations and rule sets.

Maritime Standards Knowledge

Understanding of one or more of the following: MCA Workboat Code Classification Society Rules (ABS, Lloyd's Register, DNV or equivalent) SOLAS

Compliance Management

Experience creating and maintaining compliance matrices. Experience performing compliance assessments and gap analyses. Ability to produce clear compliance documentation and evidence packages.

Stakeholder Engagement

Experience working with external regulatory organisations. Ability to manage technical discussions with authorities, customers, suppliers and assessors. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience within the maritime sector. Experience with autonomous systems. Experience managing systems in operational service.

You’ll work collaboratively across engineering, programme and commercial teams, ensuring compliance requirements are considered from the earliest stages of development through to certification and operation.

Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical engineering actions. You’ll be comfortable engaging with external authorities and internal stakeholders while maintaining ownership of compliance activities across multiple projects.
