Job description

About Lightyear

We’re on a mission to make investing better for everyone in Europe. More specifically, we’re making it light years better (sorry… we had to!). We’re combining multi-currency accounts with unlimited access to global markets so that everyone in Europe can invest without sneaky hidden fees or unnecessary barriers.

Over the last 3 years, we’ve grown from being just an idea to a regulated business in both the UK & the EU, launching in 22 countries and raising $35M along the way. And we’ve hired a team of 60+ people from some of the best fintechs and startups in Europe.

We’ve got a stellar group of investors behind us including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sir Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, Taavet Hinrikus, Jaan Tallinn, Sten Tamkivi, Eileen Burbidge as well as a host of angel investors. In 2022, we raised a $25M Series A round and have been covered in CNBC, TechCrunch, Business Insider and City AM.

What you will do

As a Compliance and Risk Specialist, you will provide day to day support and assurance to different first line of defence teams in the organisation (brokerage and customer operations, product and engineering, communications and growth) to help them identify, manage and monitor risks and design efficient controls to mitigate these, aligning it with our risk profile. You will be conducting regulatory horizon scanning, financial promotion and product approvals and compliance monitoring , using data to measure those results, evaluating potential weaknesses in the controls in place, and leading drawing up remediation plans.

  • Supporting the continued development and implementation of our risk and controls framework, ensuring risks are identified, managed and mitigated according to our risk appetite in a timely manner while offering assurance that requirements are being met;
  • Running a risk-based compliance monitoring plan, conducting monitoring activities over different parts of the organisation and providing expert guidance and support to ensure controls are effectively designed and properly executed;
  • Identify, review, interpret and perform gap analysis on regulatory publications relevant to the firm’s activities;
  • Assisting the firm where required with regulator requests, internal and external audits and partner due diligence requests, and conducting due diligence on our partners;
  • Raising awareness and knowledge of risk management and compliance in the organisation by managing the training of staff and maintenance of internal policies.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience working in compliance, risk management, auditing, legal or related areas in financial services;
  • Previous experience of or keen interest in learning how to design and implement compliance and risk controls and processes;
  • Exceptional written and spoken English;
  • Excellent collaboration and consulting skills, ability to dive deep into various topics, extract insights, create structures and build consensus;
  • Familiar with navigating the FCA handbook, particularly PRIN2A, COBS and SYSC. Knowledge of CASS is a plus;
  • Ideally, self-sufficient in using data to make decisions and measure results.
  • Having worked in a startup environment is a plus;
  • Having worked with operations, product or engineering teams on launching new products or markets is a plus;
  • An understanding of the investment world is preferred, but it’s not required. A willingness to learn about it is a must, though!
