Job summary

Budget Energy NI is seeking a Regulation Analyst to join the Regulation, Policy and Compliance team. You will ensure consumer protection and regulatory compliance across the Republic and North of Ireland, while keeping the business informed of regulatory developments and influencing policy effectively.

The role supports consultations, internal audits, and cross-functional coordination to align with regulatory requirements and commercial goals.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Law, Business, Compliance, Public Policy or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years' experience in regulatory, compliance, policy, governance, or related role.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor regulatory and policy consultations in NI, the EU, UK, etc.
  • Support lobbying and influencing new regulatory requirements and policymaking.
  • Conduct internal regulatory compliance audits and spot checks.
  • Inform operational units of regulatory requirements to guide commercial decisions.
  • Collate information for regulatory compliance returns and filings.
  • Represent the company at industry fora and workshops; share relevant discussions with colleagues.
  • Inform the wider business of regulatory and policy developments.

About the role

Budget Energy is recruiting a Regulation Analyst to join our Regulation, Policy and Compliance team who is responsible for ensuring all consumer protection and regulatory compliance requirements are met within our Flogas and Budget Energy business units in the Republic and North of Ireland. The team is also responsible for ensuring the wider business is aware of developments in the regulatory environment, potential changes in regulatory requirements and new government policy and additionally, works closely with the wider business in influencing the regulatory/policy making agenda.

Budget Energy is recruiting a Regulation Analyst to join our Regulation, Policy and Compliance team who is responsible for ensuring all consumer protection and regulatory compliance requirements are met within our Flogas and Budget Energy business units in the Republic and North of Ireland. The team is also responsible for ensuring the wider business is aware of developments in the regulatory environment, potential changes in regulatory requirements and new government policy and additionally, works closely with the wider business in influencing the regulatory/policy making agenda.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor, report and respond to relevant regulatory and policy consultations in Northen Ireland, the EU, UK etc.
  • Support the Regulation, Policy and Compliance Team in lobbying and influencing new regulatory requirements and government policymaking in Northen Ireland, the UK, the EU and other markets as required
  • Complete internal regulatory compliance audits and spot checks on various organisational functions
  • Inform operational business units of regulatory requirements, on how to achieve compliance and on changes to requirements to help inform commercial decisions.
  • Manage the collation of information for filing of regulatory compliance returns.
  • Attend and act as company representative at industry fora and workshops as required and inform colleagues of relevant discussions at external meetings.
  • Inform the wider business on a regular basis of developments in the regulatory and policy environment.
  • Undertake relevant research to inform strategic positions and the development of responses to consultations or other external queries.
  • Additional duties as required.
Candidate Profile

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a degree or professional qualification (or equivalent relevant experience) in Law, Business, Compliance, Public Policy, or a related discipline.

Experience: The ideal candidate should have typically 2-5 years' experience in n a regulatory, compliance, policy, governance, or related role.

The ideal candidate will ideally have direct experience working in a regulations or compliance, preferably in the energy sector. Knowledge of and/ or experience of working in a regulated entity/regulator is desirable.

This person should have:

  • An understanding of regulatory and compliance principles, with the ability to analyse legislation, identify emerging regulatory trends, and communicate their commercial implication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to analysing complex information.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance regulatory requirements with business objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team
