Job summary

Academics in Reading is seeking a dedicated Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs at a specialist school. The role involves 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils access learning and building confidence, alongside collaboration with teachers and therapists.

The ideal candidate will have experience in education or care settings, with a focus on pupils with PMLD, autism, or complex medical needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in education, care, support work or a similar setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, autism, physical disabilities or complex medical needs would be highly desirable.
• Excellent training, ongoing guidance and strong leadership support are offered by the school.

Responsibilities

• Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs.
• Supporting pupils with communication, sensory, physical and learning needs.
• Assisting pupils to access classroom activities and educational programmes.
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Providing personal care where required.
• Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff.
• Encouraging pupils to develop independence and confidence.
