Job summary

Prospero Teaching are working with a specialist provision in Wakefield to recruit a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant. You will support pupils with PMLD and complex needs, providing 1:1 and small-group assistance throughout a term-time day.

The role runs 08:30 to 15:30 with a competitive daily rate, and training is provided. You will work with teachers, therapists and care staff to deliver EHCPs, promoting wellbeing and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with PMLD or complex needs.
  • Patient, compassionate, and resilient approach with individualised support.
  • Willingness to support personal care, medical routines, and physical needs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable learners.

Complex Needs Teaching Assistant - Wakefield

Position: Teaching Assistant (Complex Needs / PMLD)
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-Time (Term-time)

About the Role

We are working with a fantastic, inclusive specialist provision in Wakefield that supports pupils with a range of complex physical, sensory, medical, communication, and learning needs. Many students require high levels of support throughout the day, including assistance with mobility, communication, sensory engagement, and personal care.

As a Teaching Assistant, You Will:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, hygiene, and mobility, including moving and handling (training provided).
  • Support sensory-based learning and communication, using tools such as Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems.
  • Work with teachers, therapists, and care staff to implement Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable learners.
To Be Eligible for This Role, You Must:
  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced Child Barred List DBS registered with the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
  • Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two years
