Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a Complex Needs Support Worker to join specialist SEND schools in Consett. You will provide one-to-one and small-group support to children with complex learning needs and help them access learning.

Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams, using visual communication and person-centred approaches to promote independence and confidence. Experience with Autism, PMLD or physical disabilities is welcomed; safeguarding and care plans are followed.

Complex Needs Support Worker

Are you an experienced Support Worker, Care Worker or Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with complex additional needs?

Do you have a patient, compassionate and resilient approach and want to use your skills within a specialist education setting?

We are currently seeking a dedicated Complex Needs Support Worker to work within specialist SEND schools and provisions. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with complex learning needs, Autism (ASC), PMLD, SLD, physical disabilities, communication difficulties and other additional needs.

Working closely with teachers, therapists, SEND professionals and pastoral teams, you will provide high-quality individualised support, helping pupils to communicate, develop independence, access learning and enjoy a positive school experience.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience working as a Support Worker, Care Worker, Teaching Assistant, Healthcare Assistant or similar role.
  • Experience supporting children, young people or adults with complex needs is desirable.
  • A patient, compassionate and person-centred approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and resilient when supporting pupils with challenging or complex needs.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and the importance of promoting dignity and independence.
  • Willingness to support pupils with personal care where required.
  • Ability to provide two recent references.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with complex additional needs.
  • Support pupils with Autism, PMLD, SLD, physical disabilities, communication difficulties and complex learning needs.
  • Assist pupils to access classroom activities and engage with their learning.
  • Promote independence, confidence and life skills through personalised support.
  • Support pupils with communication using appropriate strategies, including visual communication and alternative communication methods where required.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility and physical support in line with individual care plans.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunch and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through a calm and consistent approach.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and wider support teams to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Follow individual risk assessments, care plans and safeguarding procedures.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every pupil is supported to reach their potential.
