Job summary

Veritas Education in Hounslow is seeking a Complex Needs SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school supporting pupils with complex learning, physical and communication needs.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, build strong relationships, and help learners on individual targets. DBS clearance is essential, with collaboration across teachers, therapists and support staff to foster a safe, nurturing learning environment.

Complex Needs SEN Teaching Assistant - Specialist School - Hounslow

Are you an experienced, patient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children and young people with complex needs?

We are currently recruiting for a Complex Needs SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Hounslow, supporting pupils with a range of complex learning, physical, communication and medical needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about specialist education and understands the importance of providing consistent, individualised and nurturing support to pupils with significant additional needs.

You will need to be calm, adaptable and confident, with the ability to respond to a wide range of individual needs while helping pupils feel safe, supported and encouraged to reach their potential.

The Role

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex additional needs.
• Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and help them feel safe and secure.
• Support pupils with communication, cognition, physical development, sensory needs and emotional wellbeing.
• Assist with personalised learning programmes and individual pupil targets.
• Use appropriate sensory, communication and therapeutic strategies to support learning and development.
• Support pupils who may have PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities or other complex needs.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence, communication and functional life skills.
• Support pupils with personal care where required, following appropriate training and school procedures.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, nurses and other professionals.
• Follow individual EHCP, care, behaviour and support plans consistently.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing and engagement.
• Help maintain a calm, safe, structured and stimulating learning environment.

Who We're Looking For

• Strong and recent experience supporting children or young people with complex needs.
• Experience working within SEN schools, specialist provisions, residential care, complex needs settings or similar environments.
• Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities or significant learning difficulties.
• A good understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and individualised support.
• Confidence supporting pupils who may require personal care or physical assistance.
• A calm, patient and highly resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to meeting individual pupil needs.
• Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.
• Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory approaches, moving and handling or other specialist support strategies would be highly desirable.
