Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking a folding machine operator to work in a fast-paced pharmaceutical carton environment. You will set up and run folding equipment, meet quality and output targets, and minimize waste while maintaining hygiene standards.

The role includes learning to operate leaflet inserters, tag applicators and gluing systems, plus maintaining equipment and supporting crew on a daily basis.

Qualifications

  • Good basic standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • Basic PC knowledge.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain hygiene and procedural standards required in our industry.
  • Previous experience of working with machines (printing/pharma/food preferred).
  • Quality conscious and self-motivated.
  • Team player with initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and correctly interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket).
  • Set and run folding machine to meet quality and output targets with minimal waste.
  • Prepare complex cartons (4 corner, Crash Lock base, internal fitments, double wall).
  • Learn setup of leaflet inserter and tag applicator.
  • Understand or learn HHS gluing systems.
  • Produce labels for packing trays and boxes.
  • Operate counting machinery.
  • Keep the work area clean and tidy following 5S procedures.
  • Follow operating procedures and quality policies.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and report needs to supervisor.
  • Take charge of day-to-day machine running (crew management).
  • Assist second minder and finishing assistant with training.
  • Ensure machine is left in good condition at end of shift.

Job description

Job Purpose

As the nature of our business can vary with changes in customer requirements and operating procedures, the following tasks are the key duties of the role, but it is understood that the Job holder will undertake any function in which he/she is adequately trained or competent.

The role will be working within a fast-paced environment, folding and packing pharmaceutical cartons, meeting the planned output for quality, volume and yield to customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities:
  • To understand and correctly interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket)
  • To set and run folding machine, to meet the quality standards and planned volume to optimum output, using minimum waste.
  • To understand how to make ready on Complex Cartons such as 4 corner, Crash Lock base, Internal Fitments, Double wall.
  • Have an understanding or prepared to learn setting up a Leaflet insertion machine, Tag applicator.
  • A knowledge of the HHS Gluing Systems.
  • Produce labels for packing trays and boxes.
  • Operate counting machinery.
  • Ensure that work area where the individual is working is kept clean and tidy and follows 5S procedure.
  • Undertake all duties in accordance with current operating procedures and quality policies. The job holder should ensure that they are aware and understand all such policies and procedures.
  • Carry out general and routine maintenance of the folding machines and equipment and to advise the supervisor or senior management of any preventative or additional maintenance required.
  • Take charge of the day to day running of the machine (Crew Management).
  • Acting support for the Second Minder and Finishing Assistant ensuring that the required training is carried out.
  • Ensuring that the machine is left in a reasonable condition at the end of each shift.
