Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a folding and packing operator to work in a fast-paced pharmaceutical carton environment. You will set up and run folding machines, ensure output meets quality and volume targets, and learn various carton assembly processes.

The role requires basic numeracy and literacy, basic PC knowledge, and the ability to work well in a team while following safety and quality procedures. Training and development are provided as part of a supportive team.

Responsibilities

• Understand and interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket).
• Set and run folding machine to meet quality and volume targets with minimal waste.
• Learn or operate complex carton setups (4 corner, Crash Lock base, Internal Fitments).
• Learn Leaflet insertion machine and tag applicator setup.
• Understand HHS Gluing Systems.
• Produce labels for packing trays and boxes.
• Operate counting machinery.
• Keep work area clean and tidy following 5S.

Hours of work: Double Days 6am - 1.30pm | 1.20 - 8.50pm Monday to Friday

Job Purpose

The role will be working within a fast-paced environment, folding and packing pharmaceutical cartons, meeting the planned output for quality, volume and yield to customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities:

• To understand and correctly interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket)
• To set and run folding machine, to meet the quality standards and planned volume to optimum output, using minimum waste.
• To understand how to make ready on Complex Cartons such as 4 corner, Crash Lock base, Internal Fitments, Double wall.
• Have an understanding or prepared to learn setting up a Leaflet insertion machine, Tag applicator.
• A knowledge of the HHS Gluing Systems.
• Produce labels for packing trays and boxes.
• Operate counting machinery.
• Ensure that work area where the individual is working is kept clean and tidy and follows 5S procedure.
• Undertake all duties in accordance with current operating procedures and quality policies. The job holder should ensure that they are aware and understand all such policies and procedures.
• Carry out general and routine maintenance of the folding machines and equipment and to advise the supervisor or senior management of any preventative or additional maintenance required.
• Take charge of the day to day running of the machine (Crew Management).
• Acting support for the Second Minder and Finishing Assistant ensuring that the required training is carried out.
• Ensuring that the machine is left in a reasonable condition at the end of each shift.

• Ability to work flexibly as part of a team
• Ability to maintain hygiene and procedural standards required in our industry
• Previous experience of working with machines (ideally in a printing, pharmaceuticals or food environment)
