Job Details: Complementary Lead Therapy Coordinator

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.

We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.

Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. Complementary Lead Therapy Coordinator
Part Time - 28 hours per week thispost is currently carried out over 4 days per week, with some hybrid working.


About the Role.
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a lead complementary therapist to join our vibrant team at Enable substance misuse service and make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable and challenged members of our community.

Enable is run in partnership with Humankind Charity and Barnet Enfield Haringey Mental Health Trust NHS. The team operates from 2 sites in Enfield to provide a wide range of substance misuse services to local residents including, substitute prescribing, community detox, criminal justice interventions, community care assessments, psycho-social groups, complementary and primary health care as well as a wide range of other interventions to non-opiate and alcohol users.

Humankind is seeking to recruit a new complementary therapy co-ordinator who has the professionalism, dynamism and organisational skills to continue to drive forwards this valuable part of our service. You will be an experienced practitioner in at least one modality, be passionate about reducing health inequalities and have empathy for those with mental health needs.

Your role will involve the management of the complementary therapy team, who at this time comprise of 7 volunteer practitioners who provide a range of interventions, including: massage, reflexology, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and yoga. You will provide some therapeutic sessions, manage the diary, publicise and review services, process referrals, liase with staff, service users and volunteers. You will work in conjunction with the Volunteer coordinator for London and South to recruit and induct new volunteer practitioners and offer them continued supervision and support to practise in an enriching and safe environment.

The purpose of this post is to:

  • Deliver a number of sessions a week in their discipline i.e. shiatsu or full-body acupuncture
  • Recruit volunteer complementary health practitioners ensuring that a range of complementary therapies are available to beneficiaries.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of a range of complementary health sessions
  • Provide supervision to the volunteer complementary health practitioners
  • Promote the complementary health sessions across the treatment system both to professionals and service users to ensure maximum use of the sessions
  • To recruit and induct volunteer complementary health practitioners.
  • To ensure all volunteers are recruited in line with Safer Recruiting Guidelines.
  • To ensure all volunteers are not allowed to deliver sessions until a full enhanced DBS has been seen and signed off by a manager/HR.
  • To take on operational management and one-to-one support of all volunteer therapists on a day-to-day basis
  • Actively monitor volunteer practice and performance in all areas of serviceProvision
  • Provide training where appropriate
  • Ensure volunteers prepare handover information for holidays or planned leave of absence
  • To ensure volunteers pass on client information to support staff and managers and that, where necessary, they take part in client review meetings.
