Job description

Competition & Regulatory Counsel, AWS Legal

DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and more. We are looking for a Corporate Counsel to primarily support AWS competition and regulatory-related matters throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The successful candidate will provide ongoing legal counsel and regulatory interpretation and guidance for senior executives and other business and legal team members on competition matters and a variety of product development, operational, security, compliance, and public policy matters (e.g., proactive engagement with relevant political and regulatory stakeholders). The candidate will also participate in other Amazon legal projects and support related business growth opportunities, including the management and resolution of legal and regulatory issues that arise under current and future operations, responding to regulatory inquiries, and supporting sales and infrastructure teams. A strong background in technology and the cloud industry is a plus.

We are looking for candidates who are innovative, inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, able to work independently and at times with little supervision, and demonstrate sound judgment in challenging and ambiguous situations. Developing innovative solutions to better serve our customers and clients is part of our daily business.

The role is based in London, England. Some travel may be required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Exceptional academic qualifications.
  2. Significant post-qualification legal experience (5+ years) at a leading global law firm, ideally with at least 4 years in private practice.
  3. Experience in independently managing competition related regulatory matters.
  4. High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness and creative thinking, as well as a desire to be challenged.
  5. Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
  6. Ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work.
  2. Familiar with cloud computing, IT infrastructure and telecommunications.
  3. In-house experience at a technology or internet company.
  4. Significant technology transactional and regulatory experience.
