Overview

Location: Hove (until late 2026 when office relocates to North of Worthing area). The post requires regular (monthly or thereabouts) visits to the factory at Stone, Staffs.

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: Up to £65k, depending on experience

Holiday: 33 days inclusive of BH

The Opportunity

This is a significant opportunity for an experienced & commercially astute Company Accountant to join a small team in the companys Hove office (remote from the manufacturing site). The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience in a Finance Manager position in a commercial or manufacturing environment, and will be someone who, in the near future, would be looking to take the next steps to FD level.

You will be working as part of a successful, privately owned, polymer manufacturing company, that genuinely offers and fosters a supportive and forward-thinking work culture. It is somewhere where staff are valued and rewarded for their contribution.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will play a key role in leading the finance function, together with month-end reporting, budgeting processes, and financial insight - partnering with stakeholders across the business and helping to shape the next stage of our growth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone ready to take full ownership of the finance function, improving processes, and drive performance. This role will suit a hands-on Company Accountant who is looking for their next long-term challenge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a full Management Accounting service, with particular emphasis on financial monitoring and control. This will include planning, budget setting, forecasting and reporting of actual results as well as identifying and promoting areas for performance improvement.
  • Prepare management accounts with insightful commentary for senior leadership
  • Lead the annual budget and quarterly forecasting cycles
  • Support the management in annual salary review and bonus structures adapted across different departments
  • Participate in key strategic decision making and corporate strategic planning by providing advice and guidance on the financial strategy
  • Manage and oversee our financial plans, including risk management strategies with a functional oversight over other non-finance staff areas such as HR, IT etc.
  • Design and deliver regular Management Information. Working closely with the Head of Operations to support performance reviews, KPIs and cost control, ensuring decisions are based on the best available information.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital and support treasury management
  • Design financial statements both historical and projections
  • Develop and control the companys annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and financial and statutory regulations complied with.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to the company's managers and staff to enable them to achieve their objectives
  • Oversee the preparation of the company's financial accounts to ensure that these are presented accurately and on time.
  • Develop and maintain all necessary systems, policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within the company.
  • Carry out all necessary actions to ensure that the company meets its financial and legal obligations.
  • Oversee payroll functions, and clerical functions at the Hove office.
Essential Criteria
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
  • Strong commercial or manufacturing finance experience
  • Comfortable leading or mentoring others in a small team
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and processes
  • Proactive, curious and solution oriented
  • Strong business acumen with a desire to be heavily involved in the Companys strategy and growth
