Job description

Become a Marie Curie Companion Volunteer

Location: Community Based in Merstham, Redhill or Caterham, Surrey

Commitment: 3 hours/week

Min Age: 18+

Driving: Not essential, but helpful

Criminal Record Check: Yes

Other Checks: 2 non-family references required

*Volunteers are not expected to cover all the areas mentioned

About the role

Marie Curie provides a vital service to those living with a terminal illness and their families. Your time helps reduce loneliness, offer emotional care, and assist with small tasks, allowing carers to take a break.

What you will do

  • Visit people in their homes or care settings
  • Provide friendly support and care
  • Help with tasks like making tea/coffee or going to appointments
  • Offer emotional support and signpost to services
  • Provide information and support around fuel poverty and accessing available resources
  • Complete a short report at the end of each visit

What we need from you

  • Empathy, patience, and good listening skills
  • Reliability and a commitment to weekly visits
  • Respect for privacy and dignity
  • Familiarity with basic IT – Microsoft Office, Email
