Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Youth Support Worker in Harlow to support youth work in the community. You will work face to face with young people, identifying priorities and helping design engaging activities with the team.

This permanent, full-time role requires a Level 2+ JNC recognised Youth Work qualification, good numeracy and literacy, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice. Driving licence and vehicle access are essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified at Level 2+ in a JNC recognised Youth Work Qualification.
• Good numeracy and literacy.
• Experience of working with young people and communities (voluntary or paid).
• Ability to build relationships and relate well to people.
• Ability to work in a changing environment.
• Commitment to challenging prejudice and ignorance.
• Ability to develop work with young people and communities to achieve planned outcomes.
• Ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Identify areas of need and opportunities within the community for youth work programmes.
• Support the development of youth services by helping communities enhance their skills.
• Negotiate with young people and communities on involvement in programme planning and evaluation.
• Promote programmes to ensure accessibility for all.
• Involve young people in decision-making processes.
• Respond to individual and group needs, promoting self-awareness and self-esteem.
• Deliver or support delivery of youth work programmes, including residentials.
• Participate in supervision and staff development and complete required training within 2 years.
• Follow Child Protection Guidelines and health & safety duties.
• Ensure duties align with Equal Opportunities Policy and Practice.
